Lionel Du Toit – Leading with Loyalty and Legacy

Lionel du Toit, Cape Town Branch Manager at faradays Electrical South Africa.

For Lionel du Toit, the electrical trade runs deep in his family roots. Inspired by his late grandfather and uncle—both electricians—Lionel’s journey in the industry began with curiosity and a strong work ethic that continues to define his career nearly three decades later.

He joined Faradays Electrical in 1996 as an electrical assistant, steadily building his skills and knowledge before qualifying as an Installation Electrician (IE) in 2003. Over the years, his commitment to quality, teamwork, and growth earned him leadership roles that allowed him to directly engage with clients and manage complex projects.

Among his many career milestones, one stands out: the H&M Waterfront project, an R8 million contract completed in just four months — a testament to his drive, precision, and commitment to excellence.

Despite his years of experience, Lionel remains humble, describing his leadership style as “a work in progress.” It’s this attitude of continuous learning and reflection that keeps his approach fresh and grounded. “Think twice,” he says, a simple but powerful lesson that has guided his decision-making since the start of his career.

Lionel strongly identifies with the Faradays motto — “Powered by People, Proven in Projects.” For him, these words are not just a statement, but the foundation of his journey and success. “I firmly believe this motto has got me where I am today,” he says.

His vision for the Cape Town Branch centers on sustained client relationships, self-sufficiency, and continued excellence. He’s committed to ensuring that the branch operates independently, contributing meaningfully to the company’s overall growth while maintaining strong, long-term relationships with clients.

To foster collaboration and innovation within his team, Lionel believes in consistency and communication — holding weekly meetings to align goals, share updates, and encourage collective accountability.

What excites him most about the industry is seeing the evolution of modern lighting designs and bringing those innovations to life for Faradays’ clients. “We always honour our workmanship,” Lionel notes proudly, ensuring that every branch upholds the same values of quality, safety, and service excellence that define Faradays.

Lionel’s motivation each day is simple — keeping the client happy. It’s this customer-first mindset that has defined his leadership and continues to strengthen Faradays’ reputation across the region.

When the workweek ends, he values time outdoors — fishing and hunting with family and friends — moments that keep him balanced and grounded. “From Friday 14h30, that’s my time,” he says with a smile, though he’s always ready to step in when the company needs him.

To young professionals, Lionel offers honest advice: “This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Long hours and years of dedication will eventually pay off.” His philosophy reflects patience, perseverance, and a genuine love for the craft.

Lionel credits the late Danny Talhami as a key mentor whose leadership and commitment to excellence continue to guide his professional approach.

Throughout his long-standing career at Faradays, Lionel has continued to embody the spirit of the company — steady, reliable, and customer-focused — proving that success is truly Powered by People, Proven in Projects..
